Ice prevention on roads using IoT
Easily installable sensors that compare the road surface with the dew point in the air provide the necessary information to prevent slipping.
Ambiductor aims to find the smartest sensors to create a safer environment. This technology can help prevent accidents - especially on road sections where plowing is difficult. For example, on modern composite materials, cobblestones and other stone slabs.
Dew point and freezing
The sensor detects the dew point in the air. The dew point is the temperature at which the air can no longer contain the amount of moisture present in the environment. This then falls out as fog, water, snow or ice.
Detecting the dew point and comparing it with the temperature of the road surface means that it can be detected when the road surface is threatened by freezing.
Smart ice control for safe traffic
Previous tests of this technology in both Sweden and the Alps show that, using dew point measurements, measures can be taken to prevent ice buildup and slippage.
The IoT-based solution makes it possible to install sensors on roadways to accurately monitor temperatures, humidity and other weather conditions in real time. By connecting these sensors to a central control system, ice-fighting measures can be taken automatically when dangerous conditions arise. The system can also provide road maintenance personnel with direct information about where and when ice-fighting is necessary.
This means that society can save costs for snow removal while keeping sensitive road sections free from slippage.
With this new IoT-based solution, we can streamline and modernize the work of de-icing on roadways. By using real-time data and automation, we can not only ensure safer roads for all road users, but also reduce the resources used for traditional de-icing

Main functionality
- Real-time monitoring: IoT sensors that measure temperature, humidity and road surface to identify the risk of ice formation before it occurs.
- Automated action: The system can activate anti-icing measures such as sanding or salting based on collected data.
- Remote monitoring and reporting: The control system allows remote monitoring and generates detailed reports for better decision-making.
- Efficient resource use: By automating actions, both time and resources are saved, while reducing environmental impact through optimized use of salt and other pesticides.
Benefits for the users
- Increased safety: Reduces the risk of accidents caused by icy road surfaces through quick and effective action.
- Cost savings: By making the use of resources, including salt and labor, operational costs are reduced.
- Environmentally friendly solution: Minimizes the overuse of chemicals and other de-icing agents, which benefits both nature and society.
- Easy to use and scalable: The solution can be easily integrated into existing systems and adapted to the specific needs of the road network.

About Ambiductor
Ambiductor has supplied the Swedish market with water meters and energy meters since 2010. The company was the first in Europe with IoT-connected, certified district heating meters. Today, a variety of smart sensors are delivered in VA, district heating, real estate and society.
For the meters, there is a measurement data management software AmbiSolution. Ambiductor cooperates with operators such as Netmore, Telia, Tele2, Telenor, Stadshubbsalliansen, Servanet and others. The company does not provide its own radio networks. This is to create an open market without lock-in effects. With Ambiductor's solutions, total freedom of choice is maintained.
Today, the company leads the IoT industry with the most LoRa-connected meters in Sweden and is an active participant in debates and dissemination of knowledge. In addition to deep knowledge in communication, the company also participates in the development of new industry rules regarding measurement technology. The explanations for the company's rapid organic growth are openness, knowledge and reliability.
